South Australian wine producers were in full force at Europe’s largest annual wine trade fair, ProWein, in Dusseldorff Germany. The Office of the Agent General was represented by Trade & Events Manager Annabel Borchardt, who with Wine Australia and Trade Start, spent the time hunting for new opportunities for South Australian growers.
Now in its 25th year, ProWein saw a record attendance this year with 61,500 visitors from 142 countries. If you had the stamina, this meant you could get to 6,900 wine and spirit exhibitors over 10 exhibition halls. Held over three days, the fair provides the opportunity for trade visitors to connect with producers, taste wines from producers seeking distribution, as well as discover the latest vintage releases.
The Australia producers, including both small and large producers from across South Australia, were located in the New World hall alongside the likes of Chile, California and New Zealand. Many were also situated on the Wine Australia stand.
The Wine Australia stand, their largest to date, featured tutored tastings in an education area, a designated meeting space, a wine bar and a very in-demand barista. Showing off the diversity of Australian wine, the Wine Australia program of events covered topics including cool climate regions, old vines, organic and biodynamic wines and alternative varieties.
