Former U.S. Vice President Al Gore and “Inconvenient Truth” environmentalist has given high praise to South Australia’s battery farm initiative.
In Australia ahead of the release of An Inconvenient Sequel: Truth to Power, the Nobel Peace Prize recipient was keen to talk to about the latest renewable energy news: Elon Musk’s mega-battery in South Australia.
“I have a lot of admiration for South Australia because it’s now leading the world — the largest battery ever, and this will be the first of many,” Mr Gore, 69, told reporters in Sydney.
“The transition to renewable electricity is going to be a lot easier because these batteries have come down in price so quickly.”
Al Gore believes other countries will follow South Australia’s lead to build a giant battery.
Elon Musk commented at the press conference “I do see this as a something that the world will look at, as an example of and of being able to do large scale battery application that really take a large amount of load. It’s really going to be an example to the rest of the world. This is definitely the way of the future. I think it’s worth other states taking a close look at this, and seeing if its applicable to their needs, which I suspect in most cases, it is.”
