Kangaroo Island Spirits Tasting

As part of The South Australia Wine Club, the Office of the Agent General will be hosting a very special tasting with Kanagroo Island Spirits aka KIS.

At the tasting, guests will have the opportunity to sample the KIS range and learn more about the brand and it’s plans to bring some of Australia’s best gin to the UK.

The KIS team is in London to accept the award for their KIS O’Gin, which was named best contemporary gin at the International Wine and Spirits Competition in London.

For further information contact Annabel Borchardt.

Kangaroo Island Spirits was Australia’s first dedicated craft gin distillery.

This genuine family craft business was established by Jon & Sarah Lark to produce gin in a traditional way and innovate with local botanicals. Motivated by the lack of serious attention to “Real Gin” by early Australian craft distillers, Kangaroo Island Spirits was born in a small shed on Kangaroo Island in 2006.

For the first 11 years using an 80 LT pot still and vapor distillation, KIS produced a range of award-winning gins all made by hand in traditional single distillation runs with real botanicals. Years living with indigenous people influenced KIS to lead in the use of local native botanicals. KIS also produced the first Australian Old Tom/aged gin and the first Australian Sloe style gin made from mulberries.

Three years ago, an additional 300 LT pot still with carter head named ‘Mary’ has helped meet growing demand. KIS continue to reap awards internationally, innovate with new products and help other Australian distillers enter the market.

KIS is Australia’s highest awarded Gin Distillery, with accolades such as the KIS Old Tom awarded Champion Gin at the 2016 Australian Distilled Spirits Awards. More recently their Whisky Barrel aged Gin took the only Double Gold at this year’s Melbourne International Spirits Competition. In the same Competition KIS were awarded ‘Australian Gin Distillery of the year’. This year the O Gin has taken out numerous awards including Champion at the Australian Gin Awards.
